Weekly Update

It has been a hectic rainy week, and today I finally got out in the garden to see how things were going. Although the weeding never seems to end, things are looking pretty good.

Day lilies are finally blooming, they act as a living fence close to the sidewalk.

Tomatoes are still growing even though it has been cooler this past week.

Cucumbers taking over the trellises...I am not sure how my pole beans are going to do sharing the trellis with these crazy cukes.

Johnny-Jump-Ups

French Marigolds that surround the tomatoes, hopefully keeping pests away.

Brassica bed thriving, especially the kale.

Petunias sneaking under the tomatoes acting as a living mulch, attracting beneficial insects to help pollinate the tomatoes and squash.

Lettuce

My harvest of peas, swiss chard, and radishes.

The peas got shelled, blanched and are now frozen to be enjoyed at a later point.

And best of all this week was that cherries are coming into season! So I picked some up at Hager's Farmers Market to eat fresh, and freeze for later.
And once again we had some great meals this week with some fresh peas and greens!

Curried steak (local grass-fed from Wheel-View Farm) with fresh peas, and local carrots and potatoes.

Beans, Greens and Barley with fresh kale and mustard greens.
